I could bore you with the derivations of the nicknames for Mutley and Fergie. I think they were both coined by John “Kipper” Herring a Salisbury contemporary of Phil Robinson and Walsingham attendee.
Ross was on Mr Herring’s table and he was constantly saying “MacRae …. Do something!” Dick Dastardly, of Wacky Races fame then took to saying “Mutley…Do Something!" Hence “Mutley.”
Fergie Powell was so called as he bore a strong resemblance to Duncan “Fergie” Ferguson who was another of Phil’s Salisbury contemporaries and Walsingham stalwart. The original Fergie had left after “O” Levels in 1971 and Fergie Powell arrived in September 1971.
I told you it was pretty boring but it is amazing the amount of useless drivel one can retain after 30 odd years. If only I could remember some more important stuff I would probably be a millionaire by now.
