The 'Straddle' 1962

Dave Corbridge doing the Straddle in 1962.  The old gym is in the background with spectators Timothy Howe (reacting in sympathy), John 'Chalky' Whyte, Martin Seaman and Keith Skipper (but see below).  The Straddle was the most popular technique at this time, being preferred to the Western Roll.  It was another few years before Dick Fosbury launched his famous 'flop' at the Mexico Olympics in 1968 - only possible through the introduction of foam landing pads.
