Contents List The Gallery Ephemera Joining Letter
This was the letter that sealed the fate of 1950s starters. Just imagine the scenes after it was taken out of the envelope. Proud parents were impressed to see that the letter was signed by Dr Lincoln Ralphs, the Chief Education Officer for Norfolk and father of Wymondham College. As the letter explained, tuition was free, but contributions were required to be paid towards the cost of accommodation. The fees were means-tested and varied considerably as a result; perhaps between £35 and £100 (£500-£1400 at today's values) for a year, depending on parents' income. 'Comfortable dormitories?' .... now I wonder where they were!
