Hockey 1st XI 1981/82

"In the middle of the front row is Sharon Vertigan.  I played with Sharon at Norwich Union; she has since retired from hockey but I'm creaking on, as is Hazel Medler (who is in 2 or 3 photos of the 1st XI in the early 70's).  My mother wanted me to attend the college but I refused and went to Dereham High School instead (1972 -1978), I have painful memories of the sporting defeats we used to suffer at the hands of the college teams!  I'm making up for my bad decision by sending my girls to the college, one already there in year 8 Kett and one waiting patiently in the wings!" - Sara Flatt

The season was successful
The 1st XI not restful.
Jill and Barbie at the back
Took care of any attack,
As goalward bound we stole
Leaving Tammy keeping goal.

Alison and Becky provided the link,
So the opposition had to rethink.
Aided by Steph on the left
Whose playing was deft,
The ball hit with a swing
Was chased by Mim up the wing.

The shout of "rush that goal again!"
Was given by Sharon Vertigan,
And carried out with ease
By the left wing, Jo Breese.
The goals were scored by Jo and Claire,
Who formed a fine attacking pair.

Now that's everybody mentioned,
But I must draw your attention
To the umpiring of Mrs Weaver,
For no-one could deceive her!
