Mr Matthews retired in 1986, having taught French at the College for the previous 13 years.  His claim to fame was that he taught Mark Wing-Davey (Zaphod Beeblebrox in the TV adaptation of Hitchiker's Guide to the Galaxy) and Mick Jagger's brother!
